“Own this love, Wes. It’s not just hers.
It’s yours too.”
Excuse me while I stare absently into a corner and mourn the end of this duet. I’M NOT OVER IT, I AM WRECKED. So let me start by saying this book is not sad because of death or anything like that, actually it’s not even sad...just EMOTIONAL as heck! You become so attached to this story, the main characters, the supporting characters, the writing, and just everything..everything guys.
Autumn fell for Connor Drake. She didn’t want to; even fought against it, but she fell in love with him anyways. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to hers. He writes as if he can feel her heart and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow. She’s in love with Connor...so why does she feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner. Fiercely intelligent with an acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor, and yet Autumn feels the electricity between them. The more time she spends with these men, the more tangled and confused her emotions become.
SO I’m in love with Weston, let’s just get that out of the way. Also I’m pretty sure I’m absolutely in love with the type of person Autumn is. Autumn is the type of girl you want to be, well at least me. I connected with her so so so much. Small town farm girl with a big heart? Pretty sure those are the exact words 95% of my three friends would use to describe me. So yeah, I relate to Autumn. She wants to literally fix the world and everyone in it. She has that do-gooder attitude but not in a protesting feminism type of way, she’s the more standing up for those who can’t and legit making a difference in the world type of girl. I went in to this book blind, I mean I knew some of what it was about but even then the summary for this book can’t even REACH into a fraction of what happens and unravels. I’m like broke, BROKE. From the beginning I knew that I didn’t like Connor and Autumn together. I liked Connor as a character and I’m sure if he wasn’t competing against someone like Weston then yeah I’d be all about that, but WESTON... nobody can compare to him. He’s nicknamed The Amherst Asshole for his grouchy, sullen personality and yet he opens up to Autumn. You get his perspective in the book as well and oh my god you guys his poetry and sensitivity makes me want to crawl under the covers and cry because I'm so wrecked. You feel the feels man, you legit feel how much Weston loves Autumn, and Connor! In middle school Connor stepped up and helped Weston out and ever since then they’ve been inseparable and best friends- no, brothers. Weston does so much for Connor, I mean he literally joins the ARMY FOR HIM. I cried right then and there when Connor’s mother asked Weston to join and watch out for Connor.....ugh. Even after everything these two books put you through you’re still there for and in love with the relationship between Connor and Weston. They go through so much, but still end up being there for each other in the end.
You don’t even feel like there is a love triangle because really there isn’t one. Autumn and Connor start dating because he saw her first, yeah... Weston and Autumn meet in the library and the connection is there right away, but in walks Connor with his charming smile and attractive personality and his eye on Autumn, so Weston steps back into the shadows to let his best friend and the man he feels he owes everything to step up and claim the girl.. The girl he can’t stop thinking about.
I loved loved loved the relationship between Autumn and Weston. It’s a slow progression from friendship to so much more. I can’t give away the biggest part of this book that will make you realize that it’s never been anyone but Autumn and Weston, not even Connor. I’m telling you guys, just read this book. Go in to it blind, and don’t let the idea of a love triangle stop you. I was super hesitant because I hate reading books with love triangles but like I said, there really isn’t one! Autumn really brought this story together and I feel like it wouldn’t have been as good as it was if the main character wasn’t as sweet and understanding as Autumn. Just wait though guys, it breaks your heart what these three characters go through and yet they all come out strong and still part of each others lives. You’ll see how emotional this duet gets in the second book, and you’ll fall even more in love with Autumn. Honestly Emma Scott, thank you so much for giving us someone like Autumn who proves that love is possible for everyone and that IT IS possible to find someone who can love you no matter what. NO MATTER WHAT....sorry just crying!!!!!!!!! If y’all want an emotional ride, one that isn’t 100% happy, but does have a happy ending then check this duet out. It is so far my favorite read of 2019 and I feel like it’s going to be hard to beat this duet. I love Emma Scott’s writing, and each book I’ve read by her so far has emotionally gripped me, and I’ve been so attached to the book and characters. Emma Scott gives you a book hangover, no doubt about it. I have to read a few other authors in between Emma Scott books because I can only handle so much emotion at one time!

Emma Scott has definitely been added to my list of favorite authors, like maybe even my second all time favorite! Definitely check out her books if you love romance, you won’t be disappointed! If you have read and loved this duet/Emma Scott you should check out anything by Kandi Steiner or Mariana Zapata (Less emotional but still AMAZING!).
