On The Rocks
by Kandi Steiner
5/5
“ If you were mine, Ruby Grace, your dreams wouldn’t come second to anything.”
This book you guys, this book.... This is the type of writing that gets you addicted and left with a book hangover. You’ll want nothing but more Kandi Steiner after this. There is just something so sweet and addicting about her writing. Even when her books are not sad, you feel just distraught with emotions. I mean our couple got their happy ever after, but here I am sitting on the couch STILL full of crazy emotions. This is how you know an author created something so magical, and Kandi Steiner just has that touch. Trust me, it takes one book by this author to become obsessed. You might as well give in now, because you’ll be binging her books! This one in particular was just what I needed! On The Rocks is her newest book, and literally she gets better with each book she publishes! If you want a small town romance filled with angst and forbidden love, you’re the right place!
Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.
That’s what Mama told me when I was a kid, kicking his pew in church and giggling at the games we’d play. It’s what the town said when his father died and the Becker brothers went wild.
And it’s on repeat in my mind the day I walk into the whiskey distillery where he works to buy a wedding gift for my fiancĂ©.
He’s trouble.
Dirty, sweaty, rude trouble.
No matter how many times I repeat it, I can’t escape Noah in our small Tennessee town. And the more I run into him, the more he infuriates me. Because he sees what no one else does.
He sees me—the real me.
The me I’m not sure I’m allowed to be.
I’m Ruby Grace Barnett, the mayor’s daughter. Soon to be a politician’s wife, just like Mama and Daddy always wanted. Soon to fulfill my family’s legacy, just like I always knew I would.
Until the boy everyone warned me about makes me question everything, like whether the wedding I’m planning is one I even want.
Everyone says Noah Becker is nothing but trouble.
If only I had listened.
I’m trying to figure out where to start because I loved SO much about this book. From the moment we meet Noah Becker I knew he was going to be one of those characters you swoon over and get emotionally attached to! ANNNNNNND I was right, but I also didn’t realize how much I would love him and Ruby Grace. The first time we meet Ruby Grace we get to see the woman she tries to be and the woman her mother wants her to be, but not even five minutes alone with Noah and she feels more like herself then she has in a long time. And that’s our biggest theme throughout this book. Ruby Grace and Noah fall fast but they fall hard, and completely. Romance books do have a tendency to dramatize the relationships and yeah it’s nice to read about the fluffy romance, but it isn’t realistic all the time. I think what makes Kandi Steiner’s writing so wonderful and heart wrenching is the realness about it. Without a doubt in my mind I feel a lot of people will be able to relate to the romance and heartbreak in this book.
Diving into our characters I just felt that emotional pull towards Noah and Ruby Grace. Like no doubt in my mind they were made for each other, and the fact that they couldn’t be together BROKE MY HEART. Don’t worry, Kandi Steiner gives you your HEA, but you don’t know that. You have no idea where this book is going to go and so you go through an emotional rollercoaster trying to figure out where this dang book is going to go. This book definitely gave me Sweet Home Alabama vibes, but more dramatic and emotional. (How many time am I going to say emotional? Probably a million!!!) Even though Noah and Ruby Grace couldn’t be together, I loved seeing them fall in love. Yes Ruby Grace has a boyfriend, but read the book. He’s a giant piece of political crap! What Ruby Grace and Noah have is a love like soul mates, and man if Kandi Steiner’s writing doesn’t make you feel like you’re watching a movie!
The side characters were also wonderful! I loved the Becker boys and I hope we get a book for each of them! I know Logan’s book is coming out next, and she said it should be here this fall....sooo fingers crossed! I also really loved Noah’s mom. She was such a....mom? Like that mom that you just want to hug and have them tell you everything is going to be alright! I loved seeing her interact with her boys at dinner!! I also loved how they all took care of their mom...SO SWEET. I about died when I read that they all take turns dancing with her after Friday dinner since their father wasn’t there to do it anymore...SEE what I’m talking about. EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER!
Anyways back to the side characters! Kandi Steiner thank you for giving us someone as magnificent as Betty! I loved seeing Ruby Grace volunteer at the nursing home and actually love and care for the residents, especially Betty. I’m so glad that the author didn’t do something even more emotional like kill her off. I was so scared that was going to happen, but thank the good lord that our sassy Betty was still alive and kicking! Seeing Betty love Ruby Grace like her own daughter was exactly what this book and Ruby Grace needed. Ruby Grace does not have the best parents in the world and I was SO pissed when I found out what they did to her, but they do start to come around at the end and they do step up for their daughter when it matters most, but thank god for Betty! I loved her meddlesome ways and how she really opened Ruby Grace’s eyes to not just love, but the world.
This brings us to our ending. It was concluded so beautifully and I love how we get to see Ruby Grace leave such an unhealthy relationship and be with someone who wants the world for her. I felt like the conclusion really gave each character the ending they deserved. Even Betty and Noah’s mom! I can’t wait to see what happens with our other Becker boys, and maybe we’ll get to see some of the characters from book one in future books!
Guys I recommend this book a 100%, and really this author. If you love romance that has some real depth and substance then you need to check out Kandi Steiner. Fans of Emma Scott will fall in love with her, and if you have read all of Kandi Steiner’s books then I definitely recommend checking out Mia Sheridan or like I said Emma Scott!
