Luna And The Lie

Luna and The Lie

by Mariana Zapata
5/5

“You want me to pretend we’re getting married or something?”

It’s no secret that Mariana Zapata is my all time favorite author. The girl knows how to write, like if I had to choose someone to write my life story or something It’d be Mariana Zapata. She was blessed by the Gods of Romance Novels with the power of slow burn. Each one of her books is a 4+ star rating and she has not disappointed me once. When I found out she was releasing Luna and the Lie, I cried tears of joy. Quickly the book world got hyped and were auctioning off organs for a chance to read Luna and the Lie. So the day came, around 1am and I one clicked this beauty. I stayed up all night reading it and boyyyyyyy was it good! Was it my new favorite Mariana Zapata book? No. But it was still a five star read! Trying to pick a favorite Mariana Zapata book is like trying to pick a favorite child, hard but possible... LOL.

Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing. With three sisters she loves, a job she adores, and a family built up of friends, She figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to. But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world, or the most patient.

If i’m being completely honest this book received 5 stars alone because of the romance. If I were to reread this I’m not sure it would still be an outright five star, maybe 4.89! (Who even rates something like that, me clearly) I was so wrapped up and absorbed in the romance that I didn’t stop and think about the things that bothered me just a little until I finished the book. Well shouldn’t a book receive five stars if the romance was that distracting!!!? So to get it over with I felt like the problems outside of the relationship had no real structure or even conclusion. I felt like they were just there to give something more to the story and were just empty plot holes. Yeah Luna has a crap family history, but I felt like everything was just a little weird the way it was handled and then wrapped up so quickly, which is what gave me the impression that they were just there to give the story some more depth. Sticking with Luna, I loved the relationship with her younger sister, but then there it was again with her other two sisters, the whole weird fake feeling. Like they had these extreme problems that resolved four pages later. BUT I did enjoy how Luna took care of her sisters and gave them the life she never had, I understand that personally and it makes Luna a real honest character that many people will be able to relate to and I think Mariana Zapata did a wonderful job writing Luna. Now with Rip and his problems, like what? You love Rip so much that you overlook the fact that he too is built up around this super secret and then when you find out the secret you’re just like...okay and? What I did like was that these two characters didn’t come from sunny backgrounds and perfect lives, they were broken and knew it, but still tried to live their life the best they could. So other then that I loved the book!
Luna like I said before was written so well and really relatable. She’s funny, and kind hearted and you just feel for her and want her to end up with the happily ever after. Her and Rip have a very slow burn relationship and it’s not exactly enemies to lovers because Luna never sees Rip as her enemy, I’d say it’s more forbidden because she feels like Rip is way out of her league and not to mention her boss! The chemistry and tension is so extreme that you’ll feel it steaming through your kindle, and you’ll want them to be together so badly! Classic Mariana Zapata!
It’s so cute seeing Rip open up and accept Luna and her personality which differs so much from his own. He sees her almost like she isn’t real and he can't believe someone as amazing as her exists, which come one, SWOON WORTHY. The boss trope really added to the tension in their relationship and the workplace scenes made you scream with frustration! Like find a closet or desk somewhere already! The best way to describe Luna and Rip is a team. I felt that early on, that they formed a sort of little team (filled with yummy tension) where they had each other’s back. When they finally do get together so much becomes clear about their interactions and relationship, and it’s just one of those books where you have to wait for that slow burn to finally reach it’s point before you get what you came for- answers! And were they not the sweetest answers, ugh Mariana Zapata just knows how to write the perfect men... Could she write one for me? Other then the romantic relationship I did enjoy the relationships with Luna and her friends and coworkers. They really all felt like one big family and I loved that! And there was one part of the book that actually surprised me and you don’t see it coming, but once it’s revealed you’re dumbstruck on how you hadn’t guessed it! So overall this book is full of a wonderful tension filled romance that makes you want to yank your hair out in frustration, and lets face it you won’t be able to put this book down. Be prepared though because Mariana Zapata writes long books, so maybe start this during the day unlike me who didn’t finish until 4am. Oh well, it was worth it. So if you’re looking for a slow burn romance with a wonderful main character then check this out, and if you have read this book and want more I’d recommend Under Locke by Mariana Zapata!
