Lost & Found

Lost & Found

“Just so I’m prepared...

are all cowboys like you?”

In the mood for a good looking cowboy with a sweet heart? Well hello there, reader meet Lost & Found! This books sucks you in with a captivating summary and the promise of a bad girl/good boy romance, yes you heard that right! The roles are reversed in this one, and boy is Jesse Walker the type of guy every girls mama hopes she’ll end up with! I’m still a little unsure if this is in the New Adult or Young Adult genre. Goodreads has it labeled as both and I think it kind of lands somewhere right in the middle. The characters are young- almost college level but not quite - but there is like one scene that I would say isn’t YA. I mean what is even considered YA/NA nowadays.... Look at any Sarah J Maas book... TOTALLY NOT WHAT I WOULD CONSIDER YA, steam literally rises out of those books! This is totally tame compared to that, but still I don’t know if this would be YA, but whatever!

After numbing her pain with boys, alcohol and just plain trouble Rowen finds herself on a greyhound to nowhere Montana the summer after she graduates high school. Her mom agreed to pay her tuition for her dream college if Rowen proves she can work hard and stay out of trouble at Willow Springs Ranch, which is the last thing Rowen wants to be doing during her summer. Until Jesse Walker walks into her life, and he’s like no one else and certainly not like her. Rowen knows there can’t be a happily ever after between the two, so she tries to ignore the boy who makes her feel things she isn’t sure she’s ready to feel.

So this is a very quick read, it’s fun. I had a good time, a great time even when I first met Jesse Walker, but some things were hard to overlook. I feel like it’s hard being this critical of a book I knew going into wasn’t more then just a fun fluffy romance, but alas I found myself picking on the poor poor novel. I’m going to tell you first what I loved about this book- Jesse Walker. At first I was a little hesitant on how I would like the reversal of the bad/good trope but I loved how sweet Jesse was! He had that golden boy personality, but a slight dash of cockiness and it just blended so well together. I never got tired of his character Jesse just stayed well rounded throughout the entire story and was such a likable character that you were able to overlook some of the unrealistic plot points.
Now Jesse may have been the best part of this book but Rowen was the worst, at least for me. I could not relate to her whatsoever, and maybe that’s just me but I felt like Rowen and Jesse had no chemistry and the relationship just wasn’t there. Honestly I just didn’t like Rowen’s personality or really anything about her. So I guess I started off right away not liking her and it just kept getting worse as I read on. Her problems that she was numbing with all these bad habits seemed more like a plot filler and was just brought on so suddenly towards the end. You know from the beginning that she has a strained relationship with her mother but we don’t know why until the end, and then it’s just resolved so quickly and not it the way you would expect it to be. Like one moment everything is absolute cow poop and the next it’s rainbows and sunshine.... OK. COOL. Not. This entire book leads you up to finally figure out why Rowen’s attitude isn’t just teen angst, and then it’s like the balloon that’s slowly been inflating this whole time just deflates instead of popping. I was annoyed, and I was already annoyed at other aspects of this book that I just rolled my eyes and read on. (For Jesse)
Not one time during the book did I want Jesse and Rowen to be together. Sure there was some tension, and when I finally thought I was getting into their relationship something would pop up and take a crap on my hopes. If you look up insta love in the dictionary there would be a picture of this book and a reference link to the Goodreads page. Harsh yes, but that’s exactly what happened. Which is disappointing because I was hoping there was going to be a nice forbidden slow burn romance. When a book centers around a romance and then the romance fails, ultimately the book fails. But this earned a solid 3 stars because of the creation of Jesse, and Jesse alone. I even shipped Jesse with his ex girlfriend more then I did with Rowen. I felt like there was a better story there then with Rowen, and I don’t know if that’s just because from chapter one I didn’t connect with Rowen or if they just aren’t a good couple in general. So sadly the relationship was dramatic instant love, unrealistic and filled with about as much tension as well nothing because there was none there. The story had so much promise, and with a character like Jesse this book could have been gold, GOLD. Maybe I just overall didn’t connect with this book because enough people on Goodreads DID connect with this book. Enough for it to get an overall 4.12 rating, so don’t be discouraged because this could end up being your favorite book! I try not to look to much into reviews and try to look at the general rating and then the summary and usually go from there because one mans trash is another mans treasure or something like that! I have plenty of favorites that I know many people hate!
Anyways this book puts you in the perfect country setting with a down to earth family and one good looking cowboy so if you don’t mind insta love then give this a shot, it’s also part of a series so you’ll get more then just one book of JESSE WALKER! Side Note: I won’t be continuing on with this series, yes I loved me a nice sweet talkin cowboy but not enough to endure Rowen for another book.... If you have read this book and want something similar I’d recommend any Abbi Glines book really, especially her Summer series!

P.S. Jesse Walker put me in such a mood for a southern/cowboy romance and would love any recommendations !!
