Nostalgia- a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past
Entering 2019 I was suddenly hit with the urge to reread some of my favorite series. Usually I’ll read Harry Potter once a year, but for the last two years I haven’t and I really think that’s what has given me this urge to do a reread! Some of these I have read more then once and some even more then that, but there are also some that I’ve only read once and would like to revisit. So in 2019 I've decided i'm going to make it the year of rereads, and hopefully get to revisit some of these wonderful stories!
1. Twilight Saga by Stephanie Meyer
This is the book that honestly inspired me to want to reread these series. I haven’t read this series since it came out, and I believe I’ve only ever read the entire series once. I’ve read Twilight a few times, but not the entire saga and this year I plan on getting to it. I know a lot of people have done rereads of this series and their view/rating has completely changed and a lot of fault is found in the saga. Y’all like come on, even when I first read Twilight when I was in the eighth grade I wasn’t analyzing it more then what it really was- a paranormal cheesy ass romance, and yeah I like that. Sue me, not really though because I have like four dollars. So I’m not going into this book to pick it apart and come out with philosophical findings. I’m going in for fun, and nothing more. With most of these rereads I’m going to try and listen to them on audiobook, but with Twilight I’ll physically be reading it because the audiobook narrator makes me want to vomit. (Why am I so dramatic) It’s bad and I’ve gotten through some bad narrators, but this was just... not good.
2. The Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
OH man, give me some Dimitri! It’s been a long long time since I’ve been in the world of the Vampire Academy. I love this series, and I’m still trash for it. I love all the characters, plot lines, and even the companion series with Adrian! I’ve read this series twice, and the first time was right around when YA Fantasy was really taking off. I.E. during the time of The Mortal Instruments, Twilight, The Hunger Games, Divergent... You know, the OG’s. The second time was YEARS later, and I had the fear that as an adult I wouldn’t enjoy it as much. Wrong, it was still so good. So you know what they say, third time is the... not charm becau- well never mind that doesn’t work, it’s gonna be good, REAL GOOD.
One Word. Warner. Is that enough for a reread, because let’s be real it is for me. Warner is one of the best book boyfriends I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading about and I can’t wait to experience this story all over again. I’ve only read this once but I loved it and with the author producing more books in the series, I believe it’s time for a reread! It’s been SOME time, and I’m in desperate need of Warn- I mean of a reread!
4. The Mortal Instruments Series by Cassandra Clare
It’s alright, calm down. This series made the list, you knew it was coming. With all the hype around QOAAD just being released I feel like 2019 is the perfect time to reread The Mortal Instruments. I’ve read this series probably about twice, and I feel like you can just never get enough of this world and Jace. Jace is another one of my favorite book boyfriends. Pretty sure my 17 year old self swore he was the ULTIMATE book boyfriend, but she was naive and didn’t know such characters as Kaz Brekker and Warner. Jace though, he’s still got it. I’ll probably end up rereading The Dark Artifices series so I can get to QOAAD and then after QOAAD jump over to TMI!
5. Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
This is a little ambitious, but I am a Slytherin after all so I’m down for the challenge. Seven nice sized books, we shall see where 2019 brings us. I might try and read one book a month or like every two or something. I’ve read this series so many times that I could probably recite it from memory. I’ve been needing some magic in my life, and the perfect cure is diving into The Wizarding World itself! This is my absolute favorite series of all time and I’m pretty sure I’ll be 90 and still loving this. It just speaks to my soul, my childhood, well literally everything. I did my waiting... 12 years of it.. In Azk- Just kidding, it’s only been 2 years since I’ve reread this but it feels way longer!
So we shall see if this plays out the way I hope it will! Like I said before, besides Twilight I’m hoping I can read the rest of these as audiobooks so I can fly through them. I can listen to audiobooks at work and can get through 1-2 books a week that way, so it’s the perfect way to be able to get through these series! I’m like super weird when it comes to reading physical books.... I can only read one at a time! I don’t know what it is, I get like anxiety about having two being read at the same time, and it’s only physical books! Like I can read an ebook, a physical book and an audiobook all at the same time, but two physical books! LORD, I’m weird. I don’t know what’s wrong with me! Help! Does anyone else have this weird reading habit, or just me?
