Hey Guys! 2018-2019 has been the year of audiobooks for me! Well more like I’ve dipped my toes in the water with them! I used to hate audiobooks and couldn't really get into them and now here I am like a seasoned pro listening to them on 1.2 speed... I know a lot of people are either yay or nay for audiobooks and I’m here for those people that either want to give them a first try or people who haven't completely given up hope and want some recommendations to try and give audiobooks a second chance!
Audiobooks in general are quite intimidating and sometimes you can dive into one of your favorite books that you’ve already read and listen to it as an audiobook and hate it. Narrators are what make or break an audiobook in my opinion! I tend to like Fantasy/YA audiobooks because there is just something about listening to a romance book in the car/public that can sometimes be a little idk.... Like once I listened to a Tessa Bailey book and I was at a stoplight and the particular scene was a mature one and I’m like drastically turning it down but to where I can still hear it and I’m trying to act normal and NOT like I’m listening to a smutty romance book. Quick glances around, quick smile to the car next to me, check my teeth for food, double check my seat belt is on... You know the usual stuff, and the whole time I’m like YEP, they know exactly what I’m listening to, and then I’m blushing so yeah....Plus Fantasy books are just so compelling to listen to! Especially if there is a full cast! BUT I do have some romance books on here that I absolutely love and are worth the listen too! So I hope you enjoy some of these as much as I did! Also these are in no particular order, I love them all equally!

1. The Coldest Girl In Coldtown by Holly Black

This is a standalone YA Fantasy, and when I first started listening to it I had no idea it was a standalone, and when I did find out I had no idea how it was going to wrap up in just one book! The narrator did an AWESOME job! I mean I was so captivated and I loved the voice she did for Gavriel! This world that was built was so mesmerizing and I was legit addicted. It's almost like The Walking Dead meets Twilight?! But not sappy, actually the romance takes a back seat with this one and is more of a subtle thread woven throughout! I feel like I wouldn’t have enjoyed this book as much if I physically read it instead of the audiobook. The audiobook just brought this world to life and it was the PERFECT choice to listen to. So If you like action, strong female characters, vampires, and road trips then check the summary for this book out and listen to a snippet on audible and I’m sure you’ll be hooked just like I was!

2. Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

DON’T SLEEP ON THIS AUDIOBOOK. This experience was like legit watching an action movie. This is action pack nonstop and the sound effects and everything really bring this book alive. The way this book is written is already unique and almost interactive but dang this audiobook was on fire! This is a full cast production and man, it made me want to listen to more full cast audiobooks. Before listening to this audiobook I had tried to pick up Illumine three times and I just couldn’t get into to it, maybe it was the way it was written? I don’t know but I saw the audiobook at my local library and decide to give it a try and it was JUST SO GOOD. So if you ever find yourself really wanting to get into a book but can’t, give the audiobook a chance. AND if you’re looking for something that will keep you entertained and intrigued from the first second listen to this one, it’s so worth it!

3. A Discovery Of Witches by Deborah Harkness

This narrator made Matthew Claremont just... hot. If you listen to this book for one reason let it be the beautiful job the narrator did with Matthew Claremont. If you’ve ever heard about this series you know it's kind of on the lengthy educational side with a huge side of romance, and once again I tried physically reading this before picking up the audiobook. Once I picked up the audiobook however I was hooked and became a huge fan of this series! I actually gave away the physical copies of these books just because I love the audiobooks so much! This is the perfect audiobook to listen to if you just want the romance part of the series. Because when you listen to it you can easily get through the “boring parts”, especially with the hype going on around this series with the TV show that just came out. So if you want to hop onto the bandwagon but you’ve tried reading it, give the audiobook a chance. It’s literally a whole other experience, and I felt like I was listening to a whole other book from the few chapters I did physically read of this book!

4. Sky In The Deep by Adrienne Young

This is the second audiobook I ever listened to and girrrrrlll it was so good! I had heard really good things about this book and that it was action packed and the romance was on point so I was ready! I intentionally picked this up as an audiobook and I loved it ! Surprisingly the best part of this book for me was not the romance, but the fighting scenes and the action. Was it the narrator or just that the book had such a strong plot that you’re hooked? Who knows, but honestly this is one of my favorite audiobooks. The fighting scenes were just so INTENSE! UGH. This narrator made me want to go and see what else she narrated so I could binge them, she was THAT good. So if you want a nice action packed story with an enemies to lovers romance this listen to this book!!

5. The Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer

So sweet, so swoon worthy, so emotional, and so educational. All of these things in one book! I watched the movie before listening to this book and I was a little worried that I wouldn’t enjoy it as much, but the audiobook was like re-watching the movie but with a little more depth and detail. I felt like I was part of the book and one of my favorite parts was all of the letters. In the movie you saw the letters being exchanged, but in the audiobook the narrators made it feel more intimate. Definitely check this audiobook out! It's such a different option and is definitely one that everyone should experience !

6. Kulti by Mariana Zapata

I went on a binge with MZ’s audiobooks, and out of all of them Kulti was my favorite. UGH the narrator made it just so good, and I loved Reineer Kulti's voice. I was a little worried how the narrator would do the German accent but I LOVED IT. This is probably my favorite audiobook ever which is funny because it’s one of my favorite books ever so no surprise!! To keep things short with this book or any MZ books in general, be prepared to fall in love with them, especially if you’ve already read her books. Listening to them as an audiobook is almost like reading them for the first time again! Callie Dalton is definitely my favorite narrator of all time, and the last book I need to listen to is Luna and The Lie, which just came out ! If you want a romance recommendation for an audiobook definitely check this one out or really any MZ book.

7. Renegades by Marissa Meyer

Absolutely a five star read/listen. I feel like I’ve said, “THIS IS SO GOOD” in every description but well THIS IS SO GOOD!!! Ugh I want to listen to the second one RIGHT NOW! This is a superhero vs villain YA Fantasy with a dash of romance, and we get to see the perspective of a Villan and a Hero (Rengade). I felt like this was a YA Xmen, sounds awesome? IT IS. The female narrator brings life to the villains voices and that was honestly the best part. I loved hearing each one and at not one point of this book was I bored. The male narrator took me some time to get used to, but the female narrator definitely made up for it. This is probably my favorite fantasy audiobook, almost tied with Kulti. I listened to this so quickly because I just didn’t want to wait to get back into the car to finish it. If I had to pick one book for you guys to listen to it would be this one!

8. Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

This is almost as good as watching the TV Show. I’ve physically read and listened to the books and I feel like now is the perfect time to suggest this series. It’s perfect on audiobook and the narrator does an excellent job. It’s funny because I have different favorite characters in the books then I do in the show!!! Tyrion though is my favorite part to read/listen to, also I hate Dany in both so there’s that in common! If the other books I mentioned aren’t up your alley definitely give this a shot, especially if you're in a GOT hangover right now!
