Favorite Sports Romances

Hey Guys! One of my favorite genres to read is sports romances! Uhh they’re just the best! I wanted to give you guys some recommendations if you’re just diving in or if you love this genre just as much as I do and needed more! So the ones I picked out are my ABSOLUTE favorites and I recommend them 100%! The sports are awesome, the romances are awesome, and the writing is awesome! I hope you find one you love !

1. The Wall Of Winnipeg And Me by Mariana Zapata

So this list wouldn’t be complete without a book from Mariana Zapata. If you didn’t already know from the million and three times I’ve spoken about her, she’s my favorite author... of all time? Maybe.. Possibly, yes. BUT she’s 100% hands down my favorite romance author and she also just happens to be exceptionally good at sports romances. She has a few that are really really good, but I think her best one is The Wall Of Winnipeg!
Vanessa Mazur knows she’s doing the right thing, and she shouldn’t feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary.
But when Aidan Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she’s beyond shocked. For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn’t find it in him to tell her good morning or happy birthday. Now? He’s asking for the unthinkable. What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?

Aidan is literally perfection. If you read this book for anything let it be him, or Vanessa’s superior wit. The girl has the best sarcastic comments and comebacks! This book literally had me laughing out loud! Every part of this book from page one I loved - the main characters, seeing Aidan pay football (and workout), Vanessa growing and becoming the woman she wants to be, the side characters *sigh Zac* (P.S. MZ when are we getting Zac’s book???), and the slowwwwww burn romance. This book really has a little bit of everything in it so I feel like so many people could enjoy it. Be prepared though if this is your first MZ book, you’ll be binging her books after this one. They’re addicting ! Also go Team Graves!!

2. The Deal by Elle Kennedy

Hockey romance is a gift from God. I’m pretty sure that this is my favorite sport to read about, and Elle Kennedy knows how to write about some hockey!! The Off-Campus series is a pretty well known one in the romance world so I’m sure a lot of people have heard about this one, but I don’t care this is for the people who haven't and are missing out on Elle Kennedy’s writing!
Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she’s carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex. If she wants to get her crush’s attention, she’ll have to step out of her comfort zone, even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.
All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after college, but his plummeting GPA is threatening all he’s worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he’s all for it. But with one unexpected kiss, it doesn’t take long for Garrett to realize pretend isn’t going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.

SO warning this book does talk about sexual assault. I was a little surprised when I was reading this book that it took such a dark turn, well not really dark but still this is such a light hearted rom com type that when the subject got brought up I was like WELL things just got serious REAL QUICK. The way Elle Kennedy executes everything though makes the story blend and make sense, and I feel like it strengthens Hannah and Garrett’s relationship! So yes this book other then that is fun and full of laugh out loud moments. This book could easily be a movie, it almost reads like one. Hannah and Garrett have SO MUCH TENSION, and yet for the longest time it’s just a “game”, which honestly is what this tension is being built on! The entire book I was like, “HANNAH HE IS THE ONE YOU WANT, NOT THIS OTHER GUY!” Another one of my favorite parts is getting to see Hannah slowly become part of the hockey family. Garrett lives with a few of his team mates, and they all start to eventually see Hannah as one of their own! One of my favorite scenes is the lasagna scene!!! Just wait, it’s so good!! So if you love reading about hunky hockey players, tension filled friendships, hockey rivalries, college settings, and strong female characters then pick up this series!

3. The Hard Count by Ginger Scott

The next in the list is a big shocker because usually I tend to love regular adult sport romances, and well before I started reading this book I was under the impression that it was at least new adult. So when I found out it was YA I was so shook, because dang is it soooooo good. Listen I’m not saying YA isn’t good, but sports romances tend to be a little cheesy and not as well, mature. This book though blew me away. It’s an absolute five star read and a book that you can read over and over again and not get tired of. Ugh just writing this makes me want to reread it!
Nico Medina’s world is eleven miles away from Reagan’s. During the day, it’s a place where doors are open- where homes are lived in, and neighbors love. But when the sun sets, it becomes a place where young boys are afraid, where eyes watch from idling cars. West End is the kind of place that people survive.
Reagan Prescott is the coach’s daughter, sister to the prodigal son, daughter in the perfect family. Her world though, is the ugly one. In their twisted world, a boy from West End is the only shining light. She hated him before she needed him, and then she fell for him fast and loved him when it was almost too late. When two ugly worlds collide, even the strongest fall.

So this book is a little all over the place, in a good way though. The summary for this book gives almost nothing away and you’re almost left going into this book blind which is honestly how I think the author wanted it to be. This book is so emotional and I loved how the book focuses on the growth of the relationship, and man was I such a sucker for them. I fell hard for their relationship and I was so invested in it! This book will throw you through some emotional hoops! This is part of the reason I was confused this was YA. The relationship between Nico and Reagan is so mature and almost like they’re soul mates! In most YA’s you get that cute first love vibe, but not in this book. If you loved the show Friday Night Lights, you’ll absolutely love this book. Football is a huge part in this book, not only does it help build a different relationship for Nico and Reagan but it also is a big part in fighting the school politics and helping kids like Nico overcome prejudice (also more FNL vibes). Another really big part of this book that I loved was the dynamic shift in the relationship. Nico and reagan start off as academic rivals, and then slowly build they’re way up. Honestly I love how much of a nerd Nico is, and I think him and Reagan are such a powerful couple. The scenes between them were so intense that I could feel the love. I cried in this book, that just shows you how powerful it is. This is a more serious option for a sports romance, but it’s so so so good and shouldn’t be overlooked because it’s YA or really for any reason. Gives this book a chance you won’t regret it, I promise!!

4. Scoring Wilder by R.S. Grey

Okay after that last one we need some light heartedness and good times, and what a better book then Scoring Wilder! R.S. Grey is literally the queen of rom coms! That girl puts her fingers to the keyboard and literally creates comedic masterpieces! Scoring Wilder is no exception! Soccer romance is probably my second favorite sport to read about, and I love this one because not only does our male character play soccer but so does our female character! And to add a little spice, our male character just happens to be the coach ;)
With Olympic tryouts on the horizon, the last thing nineteen year old Kinsley needs to add to her plate is Liam Wilder. He’s a professional soccer player, America’s favorite bad-boy, and has all the qualities of a skilled panty-dropper. However Liam is strictly off limits. Her coaches have made that perfectly clear. But that just makes him all the more enticing.
What started out as a joke- seduce Coach Wilder- soon became a goal she had to score.
Kinsley tries to play the game her way as they navigate through forbidden territory, but Liam is determined to teach her a whole new definition for the term “team bonding”.

This book is pretty much exactly as the summary explains. Kinsley has her sights set on her new coach and there is only SO much resting Liam can handle, and uhh I loved the tension and the forbidden romance. Seeing them interact on the soccer field were some of my favorite scenes! Liam tries so hard to be her coach, but unfortunately the tension gets the better of them! This book is just so much fun, and if you’re looking for a quick lighthearted read that’s purely just for a good time then pick this book up!

5. Catching Jordan by Miranda Kenneally

Surprise another YA!! This might mean I need more adult sports romance in my life, so hit me up with your recs y’all! This book though should be labeled an underrated star! 3.86 stars on Goodreads???! Don’t let that scare you away because really this is a wonderful book! My favorite part of this book is that the athlete is the female, and not only is she an athlete but she’s the star quarterback on her High School football team!
What girl doesn’t want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks all day? Jordan Woods isn’t just surrounded by them - she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her High School football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that’s just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a good university.
But everything she’s ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he’s also.....hot. And for the first time, Jordan’s feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart’s on the line?

Let me start by saying this book TRICKS YOU. I mean just take a peak at the cover of the book.. they don’t show the faces of the characters for a reason. The whole time I was like, “Well he’s great and all but how cool would it be if it went in this other direction...” So wonder how surprised I was when it actually happened!! I loved the romance so much, and you don’t even see the plot twist coming. Just wait, JUST WAIT. I loved seeing Jordan be one of the guys but also holding on to some of her femininity and wanting to explore more into it when Ty arrives. Another really big part of this book is the friendships (some more important then others - but that’s a spoiler so I’ll shut up now ). This is another book that reads more mature then a YA which is why I think I love it so much! It does start of a little like a typical YA, but like I said the author goes in a completely different direction and it flows together so nicely and just turns out to be a wonderful romance! Every time I’m in the mood for a good football romance, I’ll pick this one up!
