After Movie

If you haven’t checked out my review on the book you should so you can see my full thoughts on it, but here’s a quick overview: MEH. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the book.. Now granted I only read the first book, but I honestly couldn’t see it getting better then that. For me at least! If this is one of your favorite books, that’s fine! I did give it like a 2.5/3 stars because parts of it did read fast and I felt like there was potential, but sadly the ending had me rolling my eyes.
What I’m reviewing today though is the After movie. So if you have no idea what the book is about then my suggestion is to go watch the movie, you’ll probably, maybe...sort of? will like it more that way.
Some people (die hard After fans) really enjoyed it, but they’re also die hard fans that hated it. I think the best way to describe this movie was that it was overall okay, but had moments either where the pacing was to fast or some parts that just didn’t make sense. Like I said, I’m not a huge After fan so I can’t really tell you EVERY little thing that was wrong but these were some of the things that caught my eye.
Let me start with some of the things I did enjoy!! I loved the actor who played Tessa! I felt like she was spot on and looked so much like how I envisioned her to in the book. The actor who played Hardin took me a little to get used to, but eventually I came around and liked him too! I also really enjoyed the music. The soundtrack was really picked out wonderfully, and I felt it was perfect for this movie!
Now some of the things that were different or I didn’t like! Like I said before the pacing was kind of all over the place. I felt like at times nothing was happening and then bam we get a bunch of different story lines in like one scene. The major plots of the book were pretty much condensed down to like ten minute scenes in the movie and the rest of the movie was like random shots and partying. Also another thing, the partying.. I felt like it was a little weird. Almost like we knew they were actors. Does that make sense?
If you have read the book you know that Hardin is an absolute bad boy with some serious mental problems. He cusses, he gets super jealous, and he treats Tessa like absolute crap multiple times. Let’s just say that book Hardin goes to Weenie Hut and movie Hardin is a frequent patron of Weenie Hut Jr.

Hardin was almost nice in the movie..... He also was never jealous, didn’t cuss, and also the whole bet in the book was completely changed in the movie. Which I didn’t mind because the bet in the book was kind of super OUT THERE. So that’s another thing the movie did right! Another thing that was weird was that Tessa didn’t meet Hardin’s parents until the wedding, which is a little prolonged and it was weird having them meet there. AND in the book Tessa is like madly in love with Hardin, but in the movie? SHE DOESN’T EVEN SAY I LOVE YOU. This is my biggest problem...not that she didn’t say I love you, but the fact that I felt like they had NO chemistry whatsoever ! They almost bored me... and there was no Zedd, which is a major plot point in the ending of the book. They are making a second movie and Anna Todd herself is writing the script so I have no idea how they are going to introduce him, or even if they are. I do know both the actors who played Tessa and Hardin are returning. (for now)
Overall the movie was fine, and like I said if you have no idea that there even is a book then you’ll have a better chance of liking the movie. My poor, poor husband went and saw this with me and he kept saying it was garbage the whole time.... so word to the wise, leave your man at home! Also real quick I’d like to say that the trailer for this movie teased so much and like none of it was actually in the movie! I was expecting shirtless Hardin scenes..... NONE. And I did feel like the movie had a lot of cut scenes. Like they filmed a lot more then what they gave us, almost to the point where some scenes didn’t even make sense!!
As I was saying though, it’s not a horrible movie. Just not great or even really good. I was hoping it would be because like I said the book had so much potential, but I’m sad to say neither of these were my cup of tea. Will I watch the second one if it does make it to theaters? Maybe, we’ll have to see what the trailer is like and everything. I know for a fact I won’t continue on with the book series. I definitely think if you’re a fan of After then this is worth a watch! These are just my thoughts, and like I said there are people who loved this movie! Something I can not stress enough!!!!!! Don’t not do something because someone else doesn’t like it. Same goes for reading! Read that book with a low rating, watch that movie with harsh critics! Something that I disliked might be your favorite movie!! If I were to rate this movie like a book I'd probably give it a 3/5 stars!
