Fix Her Up

Fix Her Up

by Tessa Bailey
4/5

“Maybe it was the way she only reached his shoulder that sent protectiveness

surging up to his jugular, while somehow—at the very same time—

he wanted to seek refuge in her.”

Ahhhhhhh! If you haven’t read any of Tessa Bailey’s work you need to! Even if this particular book isn’t your favorite, her writing is just SO good. She’s so entertaining and you’ll be trying to decide which you like more, her hilarious dialogue or her steamy scenes! Fix Her Up though is definitely one of my favorites by her! Not only do you find yourself laughing your butt off but you also have so many emotions! You’re constantly trying to figure out how one book can have so many different feels! This is definitely the type of book you read at the pool with a margarita, sounds pretty perfect right? This book is the definition of a summer read !

Georgette Castle’s family runs the best home renovation business in town, but she picked balloons instead of blueprints and they haven’t taken her seriously since. Frankly, she’s over it. Georgie loves planning children’s birthday parties and making people laugh, just not at her own expense. She’s determined to fix herself up into a Woman of the World... whatever that means.

Phase one: new framework for her business (a website from this decade, perhaps?)

Phase two: a gut-reno on her wardrobe (fyi, leggings are pants.)

Phase three: updates to her exterior (do people still wax?)

Phase four: put herself on the market (and stop crushing on Travis Ford!)

Living her best life means facing the truth: Georgie hasn’t been on a date since, well, ever. Nobody’s asking the town clown out for a night of hot sex, that’s for sure. Maybe if people think she’s having a steamy love affair, they’ll acknowledge she’s not just the “little sister” who paints faces for a living. And who better to help demolish that image than the resident sports star and tabloid favorite?
Travis Ford was major league baseball’s hottest rookie when an injury ended his career. Now he’s flipping houses to keep busy and trying to forget his glory days. But he can’t even cross the street without someone recapping his greatest hits. Or making a joke about his… bat. And then there's Georgie, his best friend’s sister, who is not a kid anymore. When she proposes a wild scheme—that they pretend to date, to shock her family and help him land a new job—he agrees. What’s the harm? It’s not like it’s real. But the girl Travis used to tease is now a funny, full-of-life woman and there’s nothing fake about how much he wants her..

Let’s start with my absolute favorite part of this book: Georgie. She is such a character!! She’s hilarious and SO original. I feel like in real life Georgie would be the type of person you’d want as your best friend. She’s supportive, caring, selfless, and good natured! From page one I knew that she was going to be my favorite part of this book! Enter her and Travis’ scenes and you’re going to end up swooning! The whole time I was rooting for our girl, and I felt almost every emotion I’m sure she was feeling. I had no idea where the plot was going to go because I kind of just dived into this book blindly after seeing all the positive reviews on social media. I’m so glad I did because this book is kind of your typical rom com and going into it blind really lets you experience it without any preconceived expectations!
I also really like Travis but I did’t have an instant connection with him. It took me some time to warm up to him but I eventually did. I do think though that I wouldn’t have liked Travis without Georgie. Like I said it took me time to warm up to him, and I think the only reason I did was because of his and Georgie’s interactions! Now on to the plot! We get a very basic “fake relationship” trope and the author does an awesome job of keeping us entertained and hooked! Is it the best romance book I’ve ever read? No, but I think the author does an great job of building the relationship from start to finish as well as seeing growth in both of our main characters! What really made this book a four star though was the scenes between our two main characters. I loved seeing Georgie bring Travis out of his depression and in the process bring something out in her she didn’t know she had. This book is just a typical Tessa Bailey book that will have you laughing your butt off and feeling completely thrown with emotions. Plus who doesn’t love a steamy sports romance with a damaged hero? You really get what you think you’d get with this book, and all around it’s such a good easy read. One that you’ll laugh and have a good time with! I mean you know it’s going to be a good book when the first chapter includes a naked butt and expired Chinese take out! If you did read this book and want more like it you should check out The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren!
