The Viscount Who Loved Me
by Julia Quinn

every single day?”
Anthony freaking Bridgerton you have stolen my heart! You know what they say, nobody makes a better husband than a reformed rake! I loved loved loved this book, and it definitely outshines the last one. You fall so quickly for our characters, and I love how Julia Quinn continues to gives us such strong and witty female characters! I’m also pretty sure I know who Lady Whistledown is after reading this book! So really, if you haven’t checked out the Bridgeton’s series yet you need to! You're missing out !
1814 promises to be another eventful season, but not, this author believes, for Anthony Bridgerton, London's most elusive bachelor, who has shown no indication that he plans to marry.
And in truth, why should he? When it comes to playing the consummate rake, nobody does it better...
—Lady Whistledown's Society Papers, April 1814
But this time, the gossip columnists have it wrong. Anthony Bridgerton hasn't just decided to marry—he's even chosen a wife! The only obstacle is his intended's older sister, Kate Sheffield—the most meddlesome woman ever to grace a London ballroom. The spirited schemer is driving Anthony mad with her determination to stop the betrothal, but when he closes his eyes at night, Kate is the woman haunting his increasingly erotic dreams...
Contrary to popular belief, Kate is quite sure that reformed rakes do not make the best husbands—and Anthony Bridgerton is the most wicked rogue of them all. Kate is determined to protect her sister—but she fears her own heart is vulnerable. And when Anthony's lips touch hers, she's suddenly afraid she might not be able to resist the reprehensible rake herself...

I loved Anthony Bridgerton so much, which is funny because in the first book I didn’t really care for him. However he SHINES in this book, and the personality that I didn’t care for in the first book made me fall in love with him in this one! He’s so protective and yes, definitely still a rakish devil but seeing him be bested by Kate was so entertaining and delightful! The relationship between our two characters was definitely the best part of this book! We do get to see some of the other Bridgeton’s, but not as much as we did in the first book. In one of my favorite scenes we see all the Bridgeton’s including Simon and the Sheffield sisters play a match of pall mall! And if it isn't the funniest part of this book... I was laughing out loud the entire time! However we mostly get to see Anthony trying to court Kate’s younger sister, all while falling in love with Kate herself! It’s one of those loves that takes an informal path and is definitely based off of banter and sexual tension!
Kate cannot stand Anthony Bridgerton. He’s the worst rake in London, and she won’t let him within ten feet of her sister. When Anthony sets his eyes on Edwina he quickly realizes that he first has to gain the approval of her sister. Anthony and Kate’s first time meeting is HILARIOUS. All thanks to his devious little brother Colin who so innocently allows Anthony to believe that Kate already adores him, and he’d have absolutely NO problem convincing her to let him court her sister. WRONG. Throughout this entire book Anthony had me laughing with just the crap he did and the things he said! Nobody could put him in his place though like Kate, and I loved seeing him fall in love with her even though he tried so desperately not to! Also can we just talk about how cute it was that Kate had a chunky corgi? Newton was probably my second favorite part of this book! Julia Quinn definitely stepped it up from the last book!
Like I said this book overall was so wonderful and definitely a fast read. I mean I completed it in one day so if that doesn’t say something I don’t know what will! You won’t be able to put this book down and you’ll fall in love with Anthony just as much as Kate does! Even though it was still a wonderful read there were just a few things that stopped me from giving it a complete 5/5 stars! One of my issues was one of the tropes. We saw the same trope in book one, and when this book was heading the same way I kind of rolled my eyes! This was the perfect, PERFECT book for a grand declaration of love! You know like an epic last minute I love you type of scene!! For example the scene in Sweet Home Alabama where she is literally standing at the altar and then the lawyer walks up and says she still needs to sign the divorce papers so she can get married to this other guy, AND SHE CAN’T!!!? I was expecting something like that with Anthony. However when I realized what direction it was going in it felt a little flat for the love and relationship the author had built up between the two. So sadly I was a little disappointed that the author took the same trope from the first book and used it in the second. Which I know it’s a very popular trope in historical romance, but still! I would have liked to see something a little more grand then what we got, but I was still really happy with the ending! Also the beginning was a little slow to get into, but that could have just been me. I was in a funk when I picked this up but as soon as I was like 15% in I was hooked!

Other then that I loved this book and I can’t wait to see if my prediction of Lady Whistledown is right or not! My guess is we’ll find out in the fourth book, because I’m pretty sure it’s the book of the person who I believe is our gossip columnist! If you have been putting this book off for whatever reason I highly suggest picking it up, or if you haven’t read book one definitely go back and start this series! It’s so fun, and you’ll quickly get addicted to the witty comments of Lady Whistledown and Julia Quinn’s amazing writing!!!
