One of my favorite authors ever is Mariana Zapata. Correction, my favorite author of all time IS Mariana Zapata. So I’m starting this little segment where I discuss all things about a certain author, and who better to start with then my favorite author of all time! I’m going to rank her books starting with my least favorite and ending with my favorite! I hope you enjoy!
10. The Best Thing
3.5/5 Soooo, this is MZ’s newest release and for some reason I just didn’t click with this one. Did I still enjoy it? Yes! Will I ever reread this book? Probably not. First let me tell you a little about the book:
Some things are easily forgiven. Other things… not so much.
Lenny DeMaio made herself a promise: she was done.
Done thinking about him.
Done worrying about him.
Done reaching out to a man who clearly didn’t want to be found.
Too bad no one gave Jonah Collins the memo.
From chapter one you kind of get a hint of what’s going on but no clear answers. All you know is that Lenny has had a rough year and the sudden absence and end of communication with brief beau Jonah Collins has left her life shaken up. Like I said you get NO answers but major hints on what is going on, and unfortunately I guessed pretty quickly what was happening.
Unfortunately this became a major theme throughout the book. Whenever there was a big “surprise” I easily guessed what was going to happen, even with the epilogue. I just felt like Jonah and Lenny had barely any chemistry, and honestly if he wasn’t even in the book I probably wouldn’t even care, which is sad because MZ creates such amazing male characters. So really I felt like nothing was holding my attention to the book.
Like I said I did enjoy certain parts of the book, but the relationship was definitely not one of them. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that it lacks the slow burn angsty relationships that MZ is known for. Lenny and Jonah reconcile and start a relationship pretty quickly, and I just felt like it lacked. Now the epilogue was such a big deal with the Slow Burner’s Facebook Group so I was like super pumped to read it, but I kept reading comments in the facebook group about how sad the ending was and how they cried their eyes out and I knew pretty quickly that there was only one thing in this book that would make SO many people cry, and guess what? I was right. Overall it's not one of my favorite MZ books. The only reason it probably did get a 3.5 rating is because the writing is amazing, and I really did enjoy Lenny and her Grandpa. Really her Grandpa is the BEST part of this book, just saying.
9. Wait For It
3.75/5 Now this is the last book that received under a 4 star rating for me, because MZ is just THAT good! Wait for it definitely had it’s moments, and also one of my favorite female characters but overall it just couldn’t compete with the rest of the books by MZ.
If anyone ever said being an adult was easy, they hadn't been one long enough. Diana Casillas can admit it: she doesn't know what the hell she's doing half the time. How she's made it through the last two years of her life without killing anyone is nothing short of a miracle. Being a grown-up wasn't supposed to be so hard. With a new house, two little boys she inherited the most painful possible way, a giant dog, a job she usually loves, more than enough family, and friends, she has almost everything she could ever ask for. Except for a boyfriend. Or a husband. But who needs either one of those?
Now my favorite part of this book is DIANA. She is such a strong female character and her story and current situation is so inspiring and I loved seeing her trying to figure out her life. Diana has not had it easy and now she’s in charge of two little boys that she has to figure out how to keep alive. Diana is not perfect and I feel like that’s what makes her so amazing. You’re probably wondering why it’s number nine on my list if I’m raving SO much about Diana. Well...., Dallas. He was just not doing it for me. I felt like him and Diana were an odd pair, and really it felt just too convenient of a pairing. It did work eventually, but like I said he just can’t compare to the rest of the male characters in MZ’s world, and really Diana shined so much in this book that Dallas just felt like a second thought and a plot point. Honestly if I would have read this book sooner and before Kulti and some of the others I would have rated it way higher, but ultimately Dallas just couldn't compare to some of the other swoon worthy characters. However this book DID have the slow burn that MZ is known for so that’s definitely a plus! This book is still an amazing book and I was addicted to it as I was reading it! Would I recommend it? 100%.
8. Dear Aaron
4/5 Now there are a lot of MZ fans that say Dear Aaron is their favorite, and I feel the same way with this book as Wait for it, where if I just would have read it before some of the other books it would have had a higher rating from me. I loved this book, don’t get me wrong but compared to the others this book was just so....... Cute?.
Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas.
The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional.
Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect.
What she didn’t count on was falling in love with the guy.
Ruby is such a sweet and caring person and Aaron was the definition of a good guy, so in conclusion they were perfect for each other! Now did they have the slow burn and angst that MZ usually provides? Yes, but not as much as the other books. I loved seeing the communication between Ruby and Aaron while he was deployed and the friendship/relationship they eventually build. It started to go a tiny bit down hill when Aaron and Ruby finally meet in person. I just found a few things about their relationship a little unrealistic and naive. I also felt like some plot points in the book were just thrown around to add depth to the story.
I was still addicted to this book and couldn’t put it down, and like I said this book offers such a sweet alternative to MZ’s usual grumpy and bickering filled relationships. From start to finish the relationship between Aaron and Ruby is very smooth and perfect.. almost too perfect, you know what I mean? Like almost they needed a little bit more drama! I definitely would recommend this book for fans of good guy romances!
4/5
This book is everything you want in a rockstar romance! Slow burn, tension filled, and a sexy male singer! Bonus it has a typical corky Mariana Zapata heroine! This is such an addicting read and honestly I put off reading this one for so long and I’m so mad at myself! It just wow’s me every time I read a new MZ book and realize how amazing she truly is, I mean she slays everything she writes, from sports romances to freaking books about porn conventions! I mean isn’t that crazy!? Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin is SUCH an underdog of hers and more fans and people need to pick up this gem!
Twenty-six-year-old Gaby Barreto might be a lot of things (loyal, sarcastic, one of the guys and a pain in the butt depending on which family member you ask), but dumb isn’t one of them. When her twin brother invites her to go on tour as his band’s merch girl, she isn’t exactly screaming at the top of her lungs with joy.
With no job opportunities pounding on her door, an ex-boyfriend she would still like to castrate, and no end in sight to moving out of her parents’ house in Dallas… it would be dumb to say no to the chance of a lifetime. Two bands, three continents, one tour. Spending the next ninety-plus days with three beloved idiots and eight complete strangers shouldn’t be a big deal, right?
If only the singer of the headlining band didn’t have tattoos... a great personality… a fantastic body… and if he wasn’t so funny….
Let’s be real: Gaby never had a chance against Sacha Malykhin.
From the moment Gaby and Sacha meet you KNOW this book is going to be amazing. The relationship was hands down my favorite part of this book. Actually Sacha was hands down my favorite part of this book. It’s captivating and HILARIOUS, and you see the two of them build this relationship that is sort of a friendship. Almost like friends to lovers! I loved seeing the slow build of their story and loved all the dang tension! I mean Gaby is literally living in a tour bus with her brother and his band so you KNOW damn well that there are going to be some tension filled scenes between her and Sacha! Literally the whole story was set up perfectly! The reason I gave this a four star though was because the relationship did border on friendship a little too much at times. Too many fart jokes, and at some points I didn’t know how Sacha felt about Gaby, like he didn’t realize how amazing she was until towards the end. I guess I’m saying it’s a little too friend zoney! It’s still addicting though and I guess I knew they were going to get together so I overlooked it a bit. I do feel like this was a test book for Mariana Zapata’s perfection of slow burns. It was one of her first books, so I think that definitely shows in the relationship. Don’t let that phase you though, this book is still down right addicting!
4.5/5
We’re literally only on number six and these books are almost all five stars. Luna and the Lie literally hit my kindle at midnight and I stayed up until 4:45am to finish this book. I was addicted and legit couldn’t put it down. I do feel like I was a little too hyped for this book and if I were to reread it I probably would rate it 4 stars instead of 4.5, but it's still really really good! First a little summary on Rip and Luna!
The problem with secrets is that they’re too easy to keep collecting.
Luna Allen has done some things she would rather no one ever know about. She also knows that, if she could go back in time, she wouldn’t change a single thing.
With three sisters she loves, a job she (mostly) adores, and a family built up of friends she’s made over the years, Luna figures everything has worked out the way it was supposed to.
But when one of those secrets involves the man who signs her paycheck, she can’t find it in her to regret it. Despite the fact that he’s not the friendliest man in the world. Or the most patient.
Sometimes there are things you’re better off keeping to yourself.
Let me start of by saying the best part of this book was the relationship between Rip and Luna. Off the charts tension and definitely sexy. 1. He’s her boss 2. He’s a complete grumpy ass 3.Age Gap romance. Enough said right? Another part of this book I really enjoyed was that Luna worked at the auto shop painting cars. I don’t know why I loved that so much, but I did. I loved the relationship between her and her coworkers and the sort of work family they create. What I didn’t love so much was both Luna and Rip’s pasts and all these secrets they were keeping. Why? I just didn’t care. I didn’t care about Luna’s sisters, and I maybe cared about Rip’s past and this secret he had for like five minutes. It felt very anticlimactic once you found out about everything. This book really reminds me of Under Locke, and I feel like if the drama went in the direction it did in Under Locke this book would have been a five star, but like I said Luna and Rip’s pasts bored me and I felt like I just wanted to hurry up and skip through those parts! Definitely pick this book up though for the amazing friendships and romance that MZ creates, and we also get to see Lenny and her Grandpa in this book!
5/5
Well we officially reached five star only books. Now the way I rated these is purely on which romances I liked better. All of the next five books are wonderful and pretty equal, and like I said I rated these purely on my enjoyment of the romance and the plot! Under Locke has one of my FAVORITE male characters, Dex Locke. Quick funny thing, Spell correct just changed Dex to sex, which is pretty accurate because this guy is a masculine grumpy GOD. He’s probably my second favorite Mariana Zapata male character but his relationship with Iris and the story still puts the book at spot number five.
He was my boss, my brother’s friend, a Widower, an ex-felon, and a man I’d seen casually with a handful of women. But he was everything that gripped me, both the good and the bad. Worst case scenario if things turned awkward between us, I could go somewhere else. I’d gotten over epic heartbreak before, one more wouldn’t kill me.
After moving to Austin following six months of unemployment back home, Iris Taylor knows she should be glad to have landed a job so quickly... even if the business is owned by a member of the same motorcycle club her estranged father used to belong to. Except Dex Locke might just be the biggest jerk she’s ever met. He’s rude, impatient and doesn’t know how to tell time.
And the last thing they ever expected was each other.
But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.
… she should have chosen the strip club
I was still addicted to this book and couldn’t put it down, and like I said this book offers such a sweet alternative to MZ’s usual grumpy and bickering filled relationships. And the last thing they ever expected was each other.
But it was either the strip club or the tattoo shop.

I absolutely adored the dynamic between Iris and Dex. Good VS Evil, Innocent VS Corrupt. Iris is pretty much as delicate as her name suggest, yet she’s also strong. Strong in a way that no young women should have to be, and this honestly makes you love her even more. Enter Dex and it’s not a smooth start for their relationship, I mean it’s the exact opposite. A bumpy ass road. Dex is her boss, and yeah he’s not nice...at all. The progression and growth in not just their relationship but themselves really give this book that addicting factor. Be prepared to BINGE this. I also fell in love with all of the side characters, and I honestly didn’t want this book to end. Now what did land this book in the number five spot is probably the ending. I felt like it was just a little too rushed and everything just sort of happened really quickly, but the epilogue is perfect and I was SO freaking happy. Pick this book up, trust me.
4. Lingus
5/5 Freaking Tristan man. Or should I say Robby Lingus ;) The fact that this book only has a 3.97 rating on Goodreads is a crime, a legit crime. This book is amazing and not loved enough. Definitely an MZ underdog, and I think the biggest thing that scares readers away is the summary, oh and the fact that it all began at a porn convention.. yes, you heard that right.
Most people would describe Katherine Berger as a responsible girl with a big heart, a loyal friend who takes care of those close to her, and the possessor of a wicked sense of humor. There was something about her that most people didn't know. "My name is Kat Berger, and I love porn."
When twenty-five-year-old Kat is dragged to a porn convention by her best friend, she's both embarrassed and nervous. The last thing she ever expected was to meet someone who makes her laugh like no other. This is a story about acceptance and friendship, and a love born out of the most unexpected of places.
Let me just state that this book is not 400 pages of a porn convention. Literally the porn convention is just a way to establish the plot and get Tristan and Kat introduced to each other. Once they leave the porn convention it has like 15% to do with the rest of the plot, and MZ writes it SO beautifully that you don’t even care. Not going to lie though, I was one of those people who put this book off because of the summary. I was like, “What the heck is MZ thinking... how weird.” Then I hit a point where I had read EVERY MZ book, and I was grasping at straws. I mean how many times can you really reread Kulti!! So I picked up Lingus, and I literally cried at the perfection of Tristan and Kat. I mean how could I have been missing out on this! Tristan and Kat start off as friends, except Kat is definitely interested in Tristan as more than that. Tristan however doesn't want a girlfriend- because you know of the whole porn star thing- so he gets a good old buddy in Kat. Except we ALL know Kat wants that ass but she’s understanding of everything, and seeing the relationship progress literally had me screaming at this book for them to get together. It had everything I wanted and I loved seeing Tristan get jealous, I loved the slow burn friends to lovers, I loved that they adopted a freaking large ass dog that farts all the time together and named him YODA, I love that Tristan is a complete freaking nerd, and I love that Kat freaking loves him for who he is. Also a little FYI, Kat had NO idea Tristan was a porn star when she first met him, I mean she quickly finds out when she sees him at a booth with a line of women a mile long, but the relationship and friendship they create is SO organic and MZ really created something magical with this book. PLEASE, PLEASE do not let this summary scare you away!
3. The Wall of Winnipeg and Me
5/5 This is probably the most well known book by MZ. It was also the first book I ever read by her, and the book that began my obsession! Slow burn sports romance? Sign me up! I fell in love with Vanessa and Aiden, and I was literally blown away by their story and the fact that slow burn books like this actually existed. I never knew this was what I wanted until I read The Wall of Winnipeg and Me.
Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary.
But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.
For two years, the man known as The Wall of Winnipeg couldn't find it in him to tell her good morning or congratulate her on her birthday. Now? He's asking for the unthinkable.
What do you say to the man who is used to getting everything he wants?
This book has a little bit of everything in it. Marriage of convenience, opposites attract, sports romance, and much more. Vanessa is probably my second favorite female character. She knows what she wants and isn’t afraid to get it. I feel like MZ’s favorite character of hers is probably Vanessa too. There is just something special about her and Aiden, and I feel like anyone who reads this can tell that MZ put extra thought into them. I loved seeing Aiden go from ignoring Vanessa to having her be his world. It’s so refreshing to see the man fall in love quicker then the female for a change. I mean you can TELL he’s all about Vanessa, but the relationship is SUCHHHHHH a slow burn. The ending scene though literally made me so happy, really so much of this book made me SO happy. There is nothing like this out there and nothing that could compare. I recommend this book to any and everyone and I probably will forever. If you are a romance fan and haven’t read this book you absolutely NEED TO.

2. Kulti
5/5 The next two books are honestly tied. I can not for the life of me choose my favorite between them. I mean I have moments where I reread them and think, “Yeah this is definitely my favorite,” but then I read the other and change my mind so guess what, they’re both number one. Deal with it! Kulti is a freaking Gem. A GEM. Nothing in the book world (Besides Lukov) compares to this. It’s honestly embarrassing how many times I have reread this book, also the audiobook is freaking amazing too. Kulti is an age gap sports romance full of tension and angst and LOTS of bickering. Perfect for fans of enemies to lovers, and coach/player type romances!
“Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.”
When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. Keywords: supposed to. It didn't take a week for 27-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she'd seen in the international soccer icon - why she'd ever had his posters on her wall or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies.
Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man who hadn't known she'd existed. So she isn't prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team's season: a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he'd once been.
Sal and Kulti are literally perfection. The romance is out of this world and honestly even just writing this stupid review is making me want to reread this book. Kulti is not an easy person to be friends with let alone fall for, and honestly that makes you love him even more. I loved how real Sal was with him even though he’s famous, like that girl does not put up with any of his crap...at all, and guess what? He likes that about her. It’s pretty obvious about 60% in that Kulti has feelings for Sal, and it’s so cute seeing how oblivious she is to it because in her mind how could the great Reineer Kulti like her? So she pretty much friend zones herself.
If you asked me to pick my favorite scene in this book, I couldn’t. There are so many amazing moments, like Kulti going home with Sal and him just chilling on her couch. There is not one bad thing about this book, not even a side character I hated or felt was unnecessary. Everything fit and don’t even get me started on how much I loved the side characters. From Sal’s teammates to her freaking dad. HER FREAKING DAD. I wish he was my dad! I legit laughed every time he showed up. Ugh please just read this book, I could go on and on about it and I’m probably going to pick it up as soon as I’m done writing this. It’s worth it, you won’t be disappointed.
1. From Lukov With Love
5/5 When I picked this book up I had no idea how much I was going to love it. If you are a fan of enemies to lovers there is no better book then this, not even The Hating Game. Yes you heard me. From the moment Ivan called Jasmine Meatball I knew I was hooked. The dialogue is perfect and MZ really brought her A game with this book. I laughed my butt off probably thought 98% of this book. SO is it worth it? DUH.
If someone were to ask Jasmine Santos to describe the last few years of her life with a single word, it would definitely be a four-letter one.
After seventeen years—and countless broken bones and broken promises—she knows her window to compete in figure skating is coming to a close.
But when the offer of a lifetime comes in from an arrogant idiot she’s spent the last decade dreaming about pushing in the way of a moving bus, Jasmine might have to reconsider everything.
Including Ivan Lukov.
I enjoyed everything about this book. I loved that Ivan and Jasmine have known each other for a long time, I loved how they were real with each other, and I loved how it wasn’t always perfect. The first time I read this book I never would have been able to predict some of the things MZ throws at you. I was in love with Ivan and Jasmine by chapter three, I mean I just knew that quickly that this was going to be one of my favorite books ever, and it is. I loved seeing them partner together and don’t think for a second that MZ holds back on the bickering. She gives you just the right amount and she progresses the relationship SO naturally that you’re absolutely hooked. Now, it is a slow burn so be prepared, but you’ll more then likely binge this book in one sitting soooo...... I mean it’s that good.
One of my favorite parts about this book was the ending, well more specifically the reveal of how they felt about each other. Sometimes it’s difficult with books like these that have a strong enemies to lovers or opposites attract type trope. Sometimes authors tend to go off course and kind of suddenly make the characters lose their personality if that makes sense. I see it all the time in enemies to lovers where one minute they hate each other and then they sort of like each other and then they're lovey dovey and getting married. Not MZ. She stayed true to her characters and kept their personality until the very end. Ivan is still cocky Ivan, and Jasmine is still mean ass Jasmine and the way they reveal their feelings was legit PERFECT for them. I was so worried it wouldn’t live up to the grandness of a relationship like theirs but it did! So thank you Mariana for these wonderful characters and your wonderful writing!
