Hotshot Doc

Hotshot Doc

by R.S. Grey

4.5/5

“Are any of them even half as cute as McDreamy?”

Grey’s Anatomy references? Relatable main character? Enemies to lovers? Hot doctor? I’m going to go ahead and call a code blue because this book just might have it all. Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey is a standalone novel about Dr.Russell the most prestigious and daring pediatric surgeon in the world, well according to everyone else the man is too hot for his britches, and Bailey his surgical assistant. Handsome? Sure. Excellent Surgeon? Definitely. Cocky? Absolutely. Bailey who, on the other hand, has been dealt a card she never thought she’d be given and learns to make the best of her situation. She’s down to earth and according to her boss one of the best surgical assistants he’s seen in a while. Unfortunately for Bailey that same boss happens to be trading in his surgical coat for a Hawaiian one, as in retirement. Bailey is desperate to find another position and stay in the same hospital so she decides to reluctantly take the position of Dr. Russell’s surgical assistant. Sure might not be to bad, but the man has had five surgical assistants in less then a year and it doesn’t help that no matter what Bailey does she can’t help but develop a silly crush on her intimidating new boss. Hours in the OR soon turn into hidden glances and some very Grey’s Anatomy type scenes that Bailey swore days ago never happen in real life!
Hotshot Doc is definitely one of my favorite romantic comedies of the year! R.S. Grey just knows how to write the perfect book to keep you up laughing until the crack of dawn, because lets face it you’ll be reading this book in one sitting. Honestly I don’t think I’ve ever read an R.S Grey book not in one sitting. She honestly captivates you and just makes you fall in love with the characters and their romance to the point where you just can’t put the book down. This book in particular really had me on the edge of my seat. I adored the chemistry between the two characters but what I loved even more was how realistic Bailey was and how realistic their relationship began and continued throughout the whole story. So if you’re ready for them to kiss and fall in love by page three this isn’t the book for you!
Bailey and Matt have a professional (If you can call it that) relationship and Bailey is trying her hardest to keep it just that. Professional.... but there’s nothing wrong with being friends or having her boss like her, right? Wrong. Matt Russell has the ego the size of Mount Rushmore, but hey the man is an amazing surgeon and he knows it, he deserves to have an ego! But nobody has ever spoken to him the way that Bailey does and he can’t help the attraction he feels for his new surgical assistant, and why deny it? The man wants what he wants and doesn’t see why a silly little thing such as him being her new boss stands in the way. The story starts off with them absolutely despising each other, and then it slowly takes the steps towards the obvious conclusion, and the steps there were just phenomenal. I want a Dr. Russell for myself! I loved that Dr.Russell was just as real and knew he was sort of a major Dou-JERK. Most characters like Dr.Russell act one way and then when someone confronts them they’re like completely oblivious. I know its repetitive, but both Dr.Russell and Bailey are just. so. REAL! From the decisions Bailey has to make to the professionalism and character of Dr.Russell everything about this book feels like it could really happen. Or am I just wishing? MCDREAMY being real though, come on who wouldn’t wish?! One thing I absolutely love about R.S. Grey and her writing is how hilarious she is. All of her female characters literally make me laugh out loud. Bailey’s personality was just so close to mine that I felt an instant connection to her and I about died when she said that Dr. Russell probably stands in the mirror and brushes each of his teeth for 15 seconds. Like come on, thats just a tiny bit of her writing to show you how amazing R.S. Grey is! One thing that did get me about this book was the ending, which is what made it a 4.5 instead of a full blown 5. Honestly it doesn’t even take away that much from the greatness of the book but the ending was still a little, what’s the right word, bland? for the book. The book was so fast pace and dramatic, and then the ending was just kind of like oh well alright then. I think I was so hyped up on their relationship that I thought the ending was going to be just as explosive (perfect word). The ending though did fit the realness of this book and I for one have to commend Ms.Grey for that! I‘ve been hooked on R.S. Grey for a while and I buy any book of hers that comes out, and I never regret it because I know I’ll have such a good time reading it. So if you’re looking for a steamy feel good romance with a touch of medical drama that doesn’t sound horribly fake then this is the book for you! Also if you want to pee your pants laughing then maybe just maybe R.S. Grey is the author you’ve been waiting for.

P.S. if you read this book and LOVE it (Which you probably will) or you already have read it and need more you should check out R.S. Grey’s other book Anything you can do. It definitely is more enemies to lover then Hotshot Doc and a little bit more of a slow burn, but girl it’s SO FUNNY, and it’s about doctors too, so yeah. IT’S GOOD. Honestly if it wasn’t totally obnoxious I would have probably written this whole review in caps so you could maybe get a feel for the amount of excitement this book really brought me, ok bye. ;)
