The Simple Wild

The Simple Wild

by K.A. Tucker

5/5

“Life up here may be simple but it’s not easy, and it’s not for everyone.”

Are you in the market for a book that makes you cry and laugh all on the same page? Well put The Simple wild in your cart because this book PROVIDES Y’ALL! I knew before going into this book that it was emotional, but I didn’t realize how emotional it was going to get. Honestly I feel like this book hit a little to close to home with that ending, and maybe that’s why I cried like a little baby for thirty minutes after! So get ready for a whirlwind of romance, of friendship, of family, and many unexpected changes because The Simple Wild is definitely a five star read!
Calla Fletcher is whisked away from her home in Alaska and her pilot father before she’s even two. The only life she has ever really known is the one with her Mother and Step-dad in Toronto. Being a complete City girl she has no idea how to react when life starts to spiral out of control, especially getting a call she never thought she’d receive. When Calla realizes her fathers days might be numbered she has to make the decision on whether or not she should fly back to Alaska and get to know Wren Fletcher. Once in Alaska this City girl struggles to adapt to the rugged environment and the incredibly annoying pilot Jonah who works for her father. Soon though Calla finds herself not just adapting to life in Alaska, but the burly pilot as well. But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave, and her mothers words continue to remind her of the truth: To not fall in love with one of those Sky Cowboys!
I felt like Calla was so modernly relatable, I mean she ran a fashion blog! And when she gets to Alaska you see how much of a city girl she really is! Not gonna lie I’d probably react the same way as Calla if I ended up somewhere like a small town in Alaska. Like come on, Lord help me if I walked in to my house and found a raccoon! But one thing I really did enjoy was that Calla and her father had a very realistic reconnection. They didn’t just see each other and instantly forgive and forget. They take time getting to know each other and the connection that they build feels real, and that’s what makes your heart die when you read this book. Every part of this is a slow burn, from Calla adjusting to Alaska to developing a relationship with Jonah. OH and let me tell you, Jonah was PERFECT. I swooned, Calla Swooned, and I’m sure thousands of other readers swooned! He is everything you want in a slow burn, slight enemy to lover book boyfriend. His and Calla’s relationship starts off rocky, literally. I loved how we got to see a slow progression of their mutual friendship and then eventual relationship. Their interactions in the beginning are SO hilarious, and that’s what distracted me. So many scenes had me hiding a smile, and trying my hardest not to burst out laughing at 2am! Is it the country atmosphere mixed with the city girl, or is it the grumpy yet sexy next door neighbor?! Whatever it was I was hooked and had such a good time! This book was filled with humor and angst that you don’t even see what’s coming until the end, I was literally flabbergasted. The whole book I was anticipating Jonah and Calla’s eventual relationship that I forgot that this book was emotional until BAM! K.A. Tucker blends this story so perfectly. Every plot point works and even though you focus mostly on the romantic relationship you also get involved in the friendships and the reconnection between Calla and her father. The ending was not what I was expecting which is kind of ridiculous because I knew there was a 50/50 chance it could end the way it did, but still I kept asking myself why and how! Altogether though the ending was beautiful and it fit. This whole story just fit together like a puzzle. All these pieces you can't see fitting together but somehow finding out that they do! I’ve read other K.A. Tucker books and they’re alright, but The Simple Wild blew me away. I would recommend this in a heart beat and it was definitely one of my favorite books of 2018! Get ready for a book hangover because if you want a slow burn, heartfelt story The Simple Wild is definitely a book you should check out, and one you won’t soon be forgetting about!
