I DNF'ed at about 60% which was a surprise to me because I was ready to quit around 40% when I realized the story was going nowhere and the characters weren't in the least bit relatable. I understood that yes, both had traumatic events that happened to them but I feel like the author did a poor job of explaining and carrying them out. Like one minute I'm reading about how Wes is coming home from school and then on the next page he's literally in jail for ten years... Like WHAT? I feel like there was no lead up to events and they just happened. For Anna I felt mostly the same way. One minute she's in love with her brother's best friend (WES) and the next she's with some other guy and she goes through something that is, yes once again really horrible, but I felt like it came out of nowhere and the couple was literally together for like five seconds. SO JUMP TO TEN YEARS LATER and we're still in the same spot we were before Wes got out of jail. He's pining for Anna, and guess what, Anna is still in love with him after barely speaking to him for ten years. I don't know, but this book had me rolling my eyes and skimming through to see if it got any better, which fyi it didn't.
