This book is about a girl, Sam, whose gold digging mom cheats on her father and moves them into her lovers house. This lover just happens to have two very attractive teenage boys who are absolute trouble. Sam must struggle with a whole new life, and the unfortunate attraction to one of her new roommates.
If this was the summary I would have read I never would have paid the 99 cents for it. One problem I had was EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER. Yes you heard that right, all of them sucked. Sam and her friends were superficial, the first moment between the love interest and Sam was weird, and the mom- don’t get me started on the mom. She cheats on her husband of 17 years and is bringing her daughter to live with her lover... The way the cheating was handled was so childish and overlooked. Like, okay mommy cheated and were all gonna go live a happy life with my side piece, and OH by the way your dad hates you now and doesn’t want you around. That was something I didn’t understand, even if a wife cheated on her husband he wouldn’t instantly hate his kid and kick her out too. I mean I don’t have any kids and experience to go off of but I know plenty of kids whose parents are divorced (some involved cheating) and custody was a huge thing, and even if it was amicable the father always wanted at least something to do with his kid. Sam’s dad on the other hand tosses the white flag in and gives poor old Sammy a slap on the back and is like, “Well kid I’ll see you around, have a good life. Cheerio!” SO I’m already shook on how ridiculous it is at this point that I decide to give ONE MORE CHAPTER a try. I literally calmly set my kindle down, backed out of the story, and then deleted it from my device when I read the conversation between Sam and her mother after Sam saw her father. Her mother literally starts throwing random words out like eating disorder and telling Sam to grow up. All 3% of this book had me upset and wondering how someone could read this entire book. So I went on Goodreads to read some reviews and see if it got better. It was like 80/40. Most people felt the same way I did and then 40% gave it five stars and SOMEHOW it has a 4.12 rating on Goodreads. What really made my decision final was I discovered through multiple reviews that there is a scene where the two boys force a bottle of alcohol down Sam’s mothers throat and I’m not here for that so.. I don’t know how something like this has a four star rating and a book like Because of Miss Bridgerton gets a 3.8 star. Who knows!!!

I always hate writing negative reviews because I always think to myself that this book that I despised (in this case) might be someone’s favorite book of all time, and that’s ok, great even, because we’re all different and enjoy different things. For example, while I was reading this I kept thinking to myself that this was the exact kind of book my sister might like and I’d run it past her the next time I see her and see if she wants to read it. So before I leave you guys I want to share some of my favorite quotes from Sam’s mother so you can get a little taste of Fallen Crest High!
“ You should talk more, honey. It’s healthier for you.”
“ You might want to wake up if you’re going to start casting blame.”
“And do me a favor, Sam, eat something tonight? I don’t want to start worrying that your eating disorder is back.”
& from Sam herself: “But....what? You’re still my dad.”
