Praying for Rain
by B.B. Easton
4/5
“ The only thing country folk love more than God is their goddamn guns.
This could get ugly.”
A series set during the apocalypse? Yes please! Also that cover though, I’m already intrigued! Is it weird too that I literally get excited whenever a male character is named Wes? I just love that name, it’s so.... boyish? I picture like a tatted rich college aged guy with blonde hair and a super cute smile, and also cocky!!!! Which once you read this book you’ll see how on the mark I was, except no college because well, it’s the apocalypse!
With only three days left until the predicted apocalypse, the small town of Franklin Springs, Georgia, has become a wasteland of abandoned cars, abandoned homes, abandoned businesses, and abandoned people. People like Rainbow Williams.
Rain isn’t afraid of dying. In fact, she’s looking forward to it. If she can just outrun her pain until April 23, she’ll never have to feel it at all.
Wes Parker has survived every horrible thing this life has thrown at him with nothing more than his resourcefulness and disarming good looks. Why should the end of the world be any different? All he needs are some basic supplies, shelter, and a sucker willing to help him out, which is exactly what he finds when he returns to his hometown of Franklin Springs.
As society crumbles, dangers mount, and secrets refuse to stay buried, two lost souls are thrust together in a twist of fate—one who will do anything to survive and one who can’t wait to die.
Perhaps, together, they can learn how to live.
Before their time runs out.
Let’s jump right in! From the first page I loved Wes and his personality, and surprisingly I loved Rain too.. It did take me a few chapters to completely jump on the Rain train, but I did end up loving her. I really enjoyed how real their relationship was and how relevant it was to the situation they were in. However, they did fall in love a little too quickly. Which I guess if you don’t have many options it’s plausible... but other then that I loved watching them fall in love as well as watching their journey. And what a journey it was! This book was not a cheesy apocalypse romance, let me just say that. I legit felt like I was right along with Wes and Rain in the book. The writing was phenomenal and the author created such an amazing realistic world. Like I could legit see this happening... which is a scary thought. Also the fact that a burger place, like Burger King, survived out of everything just made me laugh out loud! Like it’s the apocalypse, but thank god we still have a Burger King!! (It’s not really called Burger King, but I can’t remember the exact name... Y’all got the hint though. )
This book does have it’s darker moments. Especially with Rain and her family... girl. I’m gonna pray for you. PRAY FOR YOU. She goes through so much and is legit ready to just let the apocalypse wave take her when Wes saves her life in the Burger place. AND if that isn’t the cutest thing.....Wes legit becomes her shining light in the crap world they live in. I loved their treehouse scenes and really just watching Rain get under Wes’ hard exterior inch by inch. At first he sees her as a liability and a risk, but then he slowly starts to see her as a risk worth taking and soon he’s protecting them and keeping them alive.
The ending was my favorite, you’re left on such a good cliffhanger that you’ll want the second book right then and there. I had no idea that was going to happen until maybe four seconds before it did. My reaction was literarily -----> “What if this happe- OMG it is happening, and OH MY GOD, shit just got real.” And then sadly the book ended. Can I just say job well done and thank you for giving me something that didn’t just have an awesome romance but an awesome action packed story that doesn’t leave you bored during any part of this book. I hope the second book is just as riveting as this one and doesn’t fall pray to second book syndrome. Even if it does I am here for this series! It’s the new adult apocalyptic romance I needed in my life! (Such a weird thing to say, honestly....) If you’re a fan of Jennifer L Armentrout you’ll love B.B. Easton. I even fell like Easton’s work is a little more mature then Armentrout’s, which is a good thing! So definitely check this out! There isn’t a release date for book two yet, but hopefully we get one soon! Also this book is on Kindle Unlimited!
If you have read this series and loved it you should check out The Titan series by Jennifer L Armentrout!
