Trailer Park Heart
by Rachel Higginson
5/5
“I love you, Ruby Dawson. I can’t remember not loving you.
I don’t know how to live this life without loving you.
You’re it for me, Ruby. Beginning, middle, end.
I want to be so much more than your friend. I want to be your everything.”
UGH. Seriously Rachel Higginson, thank you so much for this perfection of a book. Also why is this book only like 4.05 stars on Goodreads?
Anyways, this book literally will throw you through a nice range of emotions. You’ll be wondering what to do with your life after this book....literal book hangover.
Trailer park born and raised. It’s my legacy. That’s how my mama lived. And that’s how her mama lived. It’s the life I was born into and it’s the life I swore I would leave the second I was old enough to make it out.
Only legacies have a funny way of sneaking up on you. An innocent decision the night of high school graduation led to a series of complications in my plans to escape.
Seven years later, I’ve resigned myself to this small town and the roots I’m tied to. Nothing could make me leave. And nothing could make me spill the secrets that keep me here.
Until he walks back into town with a chip on his shoulder and a stupid hunch nobody else in town has been smart enough to follow.
Levi Cole is my opposite. Born on the right side of the tracks with family money to spare, he’s the kind of black sheep that can afford to be rebellious—because his family will always pay for his mistakes. He’s also the only living heir to Cole Family Farms, after his brother Logan was killed in duty seven years ago.
He sees something in my life that he thinks he has a right to. But he’s wrong. And obnoxious. And he needs to take his stubborn good looks and that intense way he looks at me and go back to wherever it was he came from.
I know better than to trust men like him. I was born and raised in a trailer park, I know nothing good happens to girls like me—girls with trailer park lives and trailer park hearts. Especially from gorgeous, kind, pigheaded men like him.
That summary though. Stop right here, and pick this book up blind. You won’t be disappointed.... not persuaded? need a little more convincing?.... well then read on!
Ruby and Levi.... literally perfect. They start off as high school rivals and you can see they have a huge connection and that there is something more behind the childhood rivalry, but it takes one graduation party to throw everything away.
Seven years later and Levi is back in town and Ruby is still there, much to his shock. Also her life has completely changed and she’s holding onto a secret that nobody knows, not even her mother. I mean from page one this book is gripping and emotional and you can’t put this book down. I read it in one sitting and don’t regret it. I loved everything about Levi and Ruby. THEY WERE SO CUTE, and I mean Levi... can you say swoony? Be prepared to fall in love with him... just saying. This plot was written so well and I felt like things fell into place so perfectly.
It wasn’t hard to put the pieces together and I kind of figured everything out maybe halfway through the book, but it was still just so enjoyable and easily one of my favorite books of 2019. I know this was very very vague, but really the book is so easy to spoil and if you go in blindish you get the full effect, so trust me. It such a heart warming read and perfect for a rainy day and a good cup of coffee.
This book is very similar to Emma Scott books so if you’ve read and loved her work, you’ll love this book. If you have read this book and loved it then you should try Most of All You by Mia Sheridan!
