“Should I have told them about the time you gifted me that

Christmas party? I mean honestly-?”
I knew going into this book that I would love it. Do you ever just know that you’re going to love something with almost 100% certainty? That was me with this book. It kind of gave me The Hating Game vibes, and I was right! If you loved that book, you’ll love The Unhoneymooners!
Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in...well everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. She literally managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of internet contests. Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.
When the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.
Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him suddenly becomes a lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse then ever.
I really really loved Olive and Ethan! They were so cute, and literally everything I hoped they would be. Ethan honestly was my favorite part of this book, he was so sarcastic and funny! Olive and him literally had me laughing out loud multiple times throughout the book!! Their banter though was perfect! Another amazing reason to pick this book up? The freaking Harry Potter references, and also some other fandom references, but I mean I literally almost died when Ethan asked Olive what there was to do and she was like, “I thought you’d spend the day looking for your Horcruxes.” *currently dying* UGH, Olive literally is so funny! Christina Lauren did an AWESOME job writing Ethan and Olive. The chemistry and tension will have you on the edge of your seat!
Now, I did give this book five stars, but...but, there were things that I think were unnecessary. Okay, so the whole plot with Olive’s sister and her husband? I was bored, and really thought that the book would have been better without the drama. I mean I get why the author added it, it kind of brings the ending together, but still it was one of my least favorite parts of this book. Another problem I had with this book was the ending. It was fine.... I just feel like Ethan and Olive deserved a more dramatic and romance movie type happy ever after. THEY DID GET A HAPPY ENDING, not trying to imply they don’t, I just felt like it was again, a little unnecessary and tame. However I did love the epilogue and thought it was perfect, if a little predictable. The biggest problem I had with this book though was this one scene where Olive comes home to her apartment and some of her family members are there. Now for me when I read a book and love so many parts of it I can overlook certain parts, but I’m sure there are people who would find this part offensive so I wanted to mention it. So, Olive’s family starts talking about a cousin or something, and they mention that they think she’s a lesbian because she shaved her head and her mom found a dildo in her drawer.......... WHY IS THAT EVEN IN THE BOOK. It was almost like the author wanted a filler for a chapter and decided to throw that in. And also just because a girl shaves her head or has a dildo doesn’t mean she’s a lesbian?? SO yeah it was a little problematic and weird. I’ve already seen some reviews on Goodreads that are lighting this author on fire for that scene.....sooo....yeah.
Other then that I loved this book, but if I’m honest I gave this book five stars for Ethan and Olive alone. If I read this book again it might get a four star. 90% of this book though is awesome and five star worthy, but I felt like as soon as Ethan and Olive came back from Hawaii the book went down to a four star... SO yeah, but I was so pumped for Ethan and Olive that I’m going to keep this book a five star for now. If you can get over those few things I mentioned then I think you’ll love this book. Is it perfect from start to finish? No. But Ethan and Olive make this book worthy of a read and I hope you guys love it!
