There is just something about a forbidden romance!!! And what’s more forbidden then a student/teacher relationship?!!!! Now obviously this is not appropriate in real life, but it’s fiction and I love reading about forbidden romances so make sure this is your cup of tea before diving in! If you’re like me and love this trope then hello! I compiled my top five favorite student/teacher romances for you guys and I have to say some of these are pretty dang good! I have a mix of YA, NA, and adult romance! So a little something for everyone! When reading this trope I tend to prefer when the male main character is the teacher and the female is the student. It just happens that all the ones on this list are like that! However if you prefer it when the female is the teacher and the male the student then two really good recommendations are On The Island by Tracy Garvis Graves and To Professor with Love by Linda Cage!
Well alright guys, let’s dive into to some angsty and DEFINITELY forbidden romances! xo
If you haven’t heard of Colleen Hoover then welcome to Earth you sneaky Alien! Just kidding! Really though pretty much everyone has heard of CoHo, the queen of New Adult! Don’t get me wrong I love her books, but her newer work isn’t as good as her older work! Which is funny because usually it’s the opposite with authors! Anyways Slammed is one of her earliest books and one of my personal favorites! It’s a student teacher romance set in high school. The characters do meet before figuring out the teacher/student thing (total PLL vibes) and the teacher isn’t even a full teacher yet. He’s young and still in college, he’s like an aid? I can’t remember exactly but he’s pretty close in age to our heroine who is 18. So she is an adult! The emotions are off the chart in this one and I quickly fell in love with Layken and Will! Be prepared though, this is not an easy book. The easiest part of this book is the romance, and that says something! If you’ve read a CoHo book before then you know that she throws around emotions like it’s no big deal. So yeah, be prepared!

My favorite part of this book was that the characters just felt SO real and they had such realistic struggles, and when they do find out that Will is her teacher you feel the tension and you’re screaming in frustration at how unfair life is for them! (especially with all they’ve been through) Layken and Will might be young but the way Colleen writes her characters makes them feel like they couldn’t be anything less than soul mates. SO MUCH ANGST. So if you want an emotional teacher/student romance that makes you feel all the feels then check out Slammed by Colleen Hoover!
This book gives me total Where the Heart is vibes! (if you haven't seen the movie or read that book go do it!) Blue is a nineteen year old student who hasn’t had an easy life, and she just lost the one man who she did have- Jimmy. She doesn’t even know if Blue is her real name. You’re probably already shaking your head at me because I’m giving y’all another emotional one. You’re right, I’m sorry...but it’s so good, trust me!
2. A Different Blue by Amy Harmon
Blue finds peace in someone on her first day of high school-Mr. Darcy Wilson, her teacher. Mr. Wilson helps her grow and become the someone that SHE chooses to be. This is a sort of slow burn romance, and Blue isn’t in high school the whole time. The relationship is definitely a mentor-friendship type that eventually blooms into more. When Blue finally finds a place in life and is on her own she realizes she’s in love with Mr.Wilson and she knows there is no way someone as smart and pure as him could love a literal nobody like her. HEARTBREAKING. Seeing all the “almost” moments in this book killed me. So much tension and angst. You’ll cry and laugh, and then finally sigh in happiness. This book is written so well, and the author knows EXACTLY what she is doing to our heart strings. This is a journey from the very bottom of a nameless girls life to her happily ever after and I recommend it to anyone and everyone!
This one is pushing the whole student/teacher trope to the edge because it’s more of a coach/player relationship but it’s STILL forbidden and it’s a freaking five star read so it counts y’all, IT COUNTS. One day someone is going to message me and tell me to stop being so dramatic and heavy on the caps, until that day y’all shall suffer my cap happy posts!
3. Waking Olivia by Elizabeth O’Roark
Anyways this book is still a little bit on the emotional side, but our characters find a strength in each other that helps them fight their battles together. I loved this book with every inch of my heart! Olivia is a “problem” child and has been sent from school to school, but she’s also an amazing track star and her new coach just knows how to push her buttons. And Will knows that nothing good would come from getting involved with the girl that trouble follows. Seeing them resist each other for the first half of the book really adds to the intrigue and build up of the relationship, and you know that once they fall and give in, they FALL. Whenever a book is built on angst and tension I feel like the relationship is more explosive and strong. You feel me? Almost like it creates an epic-ness about it.
Will pushes Olivia to not only be a better runner and team player but also to better herself too. He also never gives up on her, and he knew pretty soon how special she was. Seeing him try and hold back his feelings and do what's best for her broke my heart. I mean this book guys....UHH. The main male character is book boyfriend worthy and he had me swooning and feeling all the feels. The entire book that student/teacher trope makes the relationship forbidden, but the author does an amazing job of giving a solution and the ending really comes together beautifully! Give this book a chance and you won’t regret it, I promise!
4. Loving Mr. Daniels by Brittany C Cherry
This is another student/teacher romance where the couple meets before they you know...”meet”. So elegant with words Ashleigh... You get what I’m saying!! Daniel and Ashlyn meet before they find out that Daniel is her teacher, and put your big boy pants on because this is another tear jerking, heart filling emotional read! Ashlyn has had a rough time with life lately and she finally finds a light in Daniel, except that light gets extinguished pretty quickly when she walks into class and sees Daniel standing behind the teacher’s desk. Ashlyn and Daniel have such a strong connection and even though he’s her teacher you’re rooting for them the ENTIRE time. Daniel knows from the moment he saw Ashlyn that she was special, and when he realizes she’s his student he takes a minute to evaluate things but the connection between them is too strong.
Now Daniel is pretty young, so it’s not like he’s 30+ and hitting on this 18 year old, but it’s still forbidden. This book though is one of the only student/teacher books where nobody finds out about the relationship. The author does an amazing job of taking a fragile relationship and blossoming it into this intense love that just clicks and makes sense. You overlook the teacher/student aspect and you just know that they are meant to be together. Like I said before, they both just went through major losses in their life and seeing them find strength in each other just made me want to cry. This is a beautiful book, and it gives you a realistic take on a situation like this. I loved this so so so much and recommend it for anyone who wants a good forbidden romance!
Finally a book that doesn’t make you want to cry the entire time! Losing it is lough out loud funny and the heroine is super relatable! Some of her one liners had me dying! Bliss though does have one problem- she’s tired of being a virgin! So the best solution is to go to a bar and hook up with a random stranger, problem solved! Except the quiet but handsome guy reading shakespeare wasn’t someone she had in mind, but he’d more then do! Her plan turns out to be a disaster and she starts to freak out. While she’s freaking out the shakespeare guy is currently naked in her bed, so she gives the world’s worst excuse and runs...out of HER apartment. Like I said-hilarious! So Bliss thinks she can get over this, I mean what are the chances she’d see that random guy ever again, right? Well first day of her last semester in college and her new professor was naked in her bed less than eight hours ago! Seeing Bliss try and explain everything and continue to give Garrick a go around is pure gold! I love seeing the real relationship they built though, and Garrick knows she’s someone special and also someone he can’t let go! Also did I mention Garrick is British, yeah h- HEY, where are you going? Come back! Probably ran to buy this book, because you know, British professor... ENOUGH SAID! This book is steamy, hilarious, wonderful, and filled with great side characters too! Cora Carmack creates a duo that will have you wanting more, and trust me you’ll want more! Go pick up this book if you want a student/teacher relationship but one more on the lighter side!
