Say Yes to the Marquess
by Tessa Dare
4.5/5
“He was sin in human form. No wonder they called him the Devil’s own.
Lucifer probably paid him to advertise.”
Tessa Dare does it again! So I’m one of those people that apparently can pick up a book in a series at random.... So just an FYI this is a series but really the romance’s are standalones. The series just lets you see the same characters throughout it, but you don’t need to read them in order!
This book was laugh out loud worthy and definitely filled with ALL kinds of steam and tension! I know that with Tessa Dare I’m going to get a funny romance with amazing characters and I wasn’t wrong! I loved Clio and Rafe’s story and if you love Tessa Dare or Historical Romance you’ll love this one!
After eight years of waiting for Piers Brandon, the wandering Marquess of Granville, to set a wedding date, Clio Whitmore has had enough. She's inherited a castle, scraped together some pride, and made plans to break her engagement.
Not if Rafe Brandon can help it. A ruthless prizefighter and notorious rake, Rafe is determined that Clio will marry his brother—even if he has to plan the dratted wedding himself.
So how does a hardened fighter cure a reluctant bride's cold feet?
● He starts with flowers. A wedding can't have too many flowers. Or harps. Or cakes.
● He lets her know she'll make a beautiful, desirable bride—and tries not to picture her as his.
● He doesn't kiss her.
● If he kisses her, he definitely doesn't kiss her again.
● When all else fails, he puts her in a stunning gown. And vows not to be nearby when the gown comes off.
● And no matter what—he doesn't fall in disastrous, hopeless love with the one woman he can never call his own.
From the moment we see Clio head into the sketchy part of London just to get a signature from her Fiance’s brother I knew I loved her! She’s strong and independent for the time, and she is at the point in her life where she could care less what people think of her. I mean she just inherited a castle for goodness sakes, what more could she need!!!? Not a finance who's made her wait 8 years that’s for sure! Clio is hilarious and I love how she’s strong from page one, and even when she falls in love she does it on her own terms and with the person of her choosing. So pretty much what I’m trying to say is that our girl don’t need no man, but hey she wants one! I mean I can relate

Then we meet Rafe. A rogue and prize fighter. Also Rafe Brandon has no intentions to ever let Clio end this engagement between her and his brother! Rafe has had enough responsibility and he knows that if Clio and Piers don’t get married his brother will continue to serve abroad! So he does what any sane man would do! He goes to her castle and plans to shower her with gifts and plenty of bridal happiness. Girls like that stuff right? I mean what girl can resist flowers and cake ?
You can pretty much guess how this goes from here on out! Rafe and Clio bump heads all the time, and it’s hilarious! However throughout it all we see them falling in love! This is a dual POV so we see from both perspectives and it really adds to the tension in the relationship! You can tell pretty quickly that Rafe has always wanted Clio, but of course being the second son means getting a second rate wife. (Hi, just me rolling my eyes again. Ok bye!) Really though it’s not all about ranks and stuff with Rafe Brandon. He truly loves his brother and he doesn’t want to take his finance from him and I think that lets us see a little into his character! YOU CAN’T HELP WHAT YOUR HEART WANTS THOUGH RAFE! I could rave on and on about this couple, but I ain’t got time to be here all day (yes I do...) so I’ll tell you guys my favorite scene between the two. It’s not really a scene but more of a conversation! I about cried tears of joy when Clio realizes that Rafe was at her entrance to society ball back when she came out, and he even remembers the pearls in her hair. I’m a sucker for when guys remember exactly what the girl was wearing the first time they either met or fall in love ! So you can say I was a big mess during this conversation! Also Tessa Dare’s writing is perfect and the way she introduces scenes and plots is the best!
Now before I go I just want you guys to know that if the romance between Clio and Rafe hasn’t sold you then say hello to the side characters! Not only is Rafe’s coach the wedding planner, but he’s also a very important man in society. I mean he has an eye glass piece and fancy pajamas so it must be true, right? And also the dog. Enough said. I love when dogs are in books and I especially love when they have adorably funny scenes! When Ellingworth peed on Clio’s sisters shoe I about peed MY pants! The dialogue throughout this book is hilarious and definitely one of the best parts of this book! Overall guys this is such a hidden gem and I feel like not enough people are talking about it! I mean what’s up with that low Goodreads rating!!? So if you love a good historical romance with some humor check this book out or really any Tessa Dare book! If you have read this book and loved it I suggest picking up Dearest Rogue by Elizabeth Hoyt!
